Jeff Bier

Jeff Bier is co-founder and President of Berkeley Design Technology Inc., a trusted resource for insight, analysis, and advice on signal processing technology. Jeff oversees BDTI’s benchmarking and competitive analysis of chips, tools, and other technology. Jeff is also a key contributor to BDTI’s consulting services, which focus on product-development, marketing, and strategic advice for companies using and developing signal processing technologies. Jeff is a recognized industry expert, frequently presenting seminars on signal processing applications and technologies. He is also editor of BDTI’s respected technology analysis reports, including Buyer’s Guide to DSP Processors, now in its sixth edition. Jeff is also Editor in Chief and a frequent contributor on InsideDSP.com, an online newsletter dedicated to digital signal processing technology. Jeff earned BS and MS degrees from Princeton University and UC Berkeley.

Jack Ganssle

Jack Ganssle writes for Embedded Systems Design and has written four books on embedded systems and one on his sailing fiascos. He started developing embedded systems in the early '70s using the 8008. Since then, he's started and sold three electronics companies, including one of the bigger embedded tool businesses. He's developed or managed more than 100 embedded products, from deep sea navigational gear to the White House security system. Ganssle now gives seminars to companies worldwide about better ways to develop embedded systems.

Bill is a contributing editor to Embedded Systems Design Magazine, and a member of the Advisory Board to the Embedded Systems Conference.

Shelley Gretlein

Shelley Gretlein is the LabVIEW Real-Time and embedded group manager at National Instruments. Shelley has a BS in computer science and a minor in Math. Shelley is currently leading the embedded design efforts and regularly participates in embedded design forums.

John Hopprich

John Hopprich is currently the VP of Engineering at SpeakSoft, Inc. in Santa Cruz. At SpeakSoft John manages the development team, works on the design of the company's VoiceShopping™ and VoiceComparison™ Shopping systems, and other areas at the innovative startup.

Prior to SpeakSoft, John worked for 12 years at Cisco Systems, Inc., San
Jose, where he was the Director of the IOS Infrastructure Group, managing
over 160 people, and worked on both the embedded Internet Operating System (IOS) and in the Network Management application area on dynamic web services agent technology. Before Cisco John worked for over 6 years as an engineer and manager at DAVID Systems, Inc. Sunnyvale, on their embedded device's management and protocols software.

Before moving to the networking industry John worked for over 6 years in
the industrial automation sector, working on various industrial
controllers and building management systems, including Industrial Control
Links of Oakland, Integrated Automation of Alameda, and as a private
consultant for Thorn/EMI, among others, in the UK.

Eric Mantion

Eric is a member of Intel's Embedded and Communications Strategic Marketing Group. He is responsible for competitive intelligence on desktop- and server-class processors as well as system-level competitors. Before joining Intel in June of 2005, he was a senior analyst at In-Stat for 4 years, covering many topics, such as AdvancedTCA, Network Processors, Switch Fabrics and even Online Gaming. Prior to that, Eric spent 2 years learning the ropes in marketing at another chipmaker. Prior to this Eric spent 7 years as a nuclear-trained officer on submarines (and other locations). For education, Eric have a BS in Physics from the US Naval Academy in 1992 and finished the extensive (but classified) Naval Nuclear Power Program.

Rob Oshana

Rob Oshana has over 25 years of experience in the real-time embedded industry in both applications as well as tools technology development. He currently manages an international engineering team with global product development responsibility. He is widely published in the industry and speaks regularly at the embedded systems conference. Rob has chaired international standards committees in the embedded space and is a licensed professional engineer. He is also an adjunct lecturer at Southern Methodist University.

He is responsible for company public relations, branding, advertising, sales collateral design, production and distribution, event and web site management for Business-to-Business (B2B) technology companies looking to improve awareness and accelerate sales on a global level. With experience of living and working in Europe, Australia and the US, Clive has planned and executed multi-million dollar marketing and promotional strategies at large semiconductor and operating system vendors. Currently, Clive works at Atmel Corporation where he is responsible for worldwide corporate marketing communications and brand services as the expert point of contact for the creation of Atmel marketing promotions and campaign management. Previous to Atmel, Clive worked as the senior brand manager for Wind River software and as IDT’s channel marketing manager in both the US and Europe, specializing in the demonstration of the value of marketing and communications in closed loop sales and marketing programs. He brings to ESC's advisory board an awareness of competitive differentiation and the importance of integrating events and promotions into the rest of the possible promotional tools available to today’s high-tech marketer. Clive is a BA Honors graduate of Southampton University, UK in European Business and Communications, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Westminster, UK and having relocated to silicon valley, California is a guest lecturer at Santa Clara university’s program for integrated marketing communications (IMC).

Lori has held a number of roles during her 15 years at Intel Corporation primarily in the areas of Customer and Channel Marketing for the Embedded markets with a heavy interest in Events and Tradeshow management and marketing. Lori has also held roles in Intel’s Purchasing, Construction and Planning organizations. Lori has a BA in Business/Production Management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Christopher Smith

Chris joined Green Hills Software in 1998. He has 20 years experience in engineering, sales and marketing of embedded and real-time systems and software. In 1994, Chris joined Intermetrics Microsystems Software, Inc. (IMSI) of Cambridge, MA, to establish a European operation and fulfilled a sales and marketing role. IMSI was purchased by BSO/Tasking in 1996. From 1985 to 1994, Chris worked for a UK-based distributor of development and computer aided engineering software tools, ARS Microsystems Ltd. In 1989, he became Vice President of Sales and a board member. Chris was educated in the United Kingdom and has a background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
